Short & Snappy: Moving Edition
I moved apartments last week, which is a pain in the ass no matter what, but is especially bad when you have five years of dusty junk to toss and also in, you know, a pandemic. The sub-freezing weather and record-breaking snowstorm didn’t help either.
Some things I learned about pandemic-moving last week:
It sucks
It sucks
It sucks
It fucking sucks
East-facing bedroom windows need curtains!!!!!!
Some other things I learned:
Anyone can lift a 60-lb box if they simply will it/are willing to sacrifice a couple vertebrae.
A pile of clothing is a great substitute for a couch if you have neither a couch nor a dresser.
Bling Empire is a perfect packing background show.
Search Party — also a perfect packing background show, perhaps a perfect show in general?
Those cans of chickpeas you stocked up on several months ago but never opened will come back to haunt you while cleaning out your old apartment.
You don’t need to know where anything is at any point, no sirree!
All your glass items will break.
Anyway, since I am currently living on a rug amid a pile of my own clothing, this week’s newsletter will actually commit to its short & snappy premise. See you next week, when some of my tshirts might actually find their way into a drawer.
Catching up on the news
The most recent BIG NEWS ITEM: Redditers taking down Wall Street, and then Wall Street taking down Redditers…I think? As a person who took one single macroeconomics class and slept through The Big Short, I only vaguely understand the Robinhood/WallStreetBets/GameStop drama, but smarter people are #onit, if you’d like an explainer.
More news:
Former NY Gov. Cuomo ally AG Tish James is going after…Cuomo for massively undercounting COVID nursing home deaths. Book sequel will be a delight!
GOP still backing Marjorie Qanon Whatsherface even though she tortured a Parkland survivor and thinks Jews have fire-starting space lasers, seems not ideal.
World’s worst TV show Emily in Paris was nominated for a FUCKING GOLDEN GLOBE, while actual great show I May Destroy You was not.
What in the christ is this??
There’s definitely more news, but my group chat’s been arguing over Godzilla vs. King Kong for like weeks now and I swear it has fried my brain.
Here are some good blogs & features I am reading
“On Marriage” — From the Desk of Alicia Kennedy
“The Nightmare Share” — The Cut
“The Downside to Life in a Supertall Tower: Leaks, Creaks, Breaks” — New York Times
“Covid Wears On, Essential Workers Carry On: ‘Everybody Forgets That You’re Still on the Front Line” — Wall Street Journal

And now for some good tweets (rare!!!!)
See you next week!
